Taggart decided to travel to different pokéstops around Darien to connect with Pokémon players and give them advice on how to safely use the game during the town’s Pokemon crawl Tuesday.
Standing outside a cruiser that he outfitted with Pikachu decals, Taggart said it’s important that users of Pokemon Go keep safety in mind.
“I think its important that we get them to understand that they have to be aware of their surroundings while playing the game,” Taggart said outside the Darien Library. “That’s the No. 1 thing that comes up when you open the app — it's be aware of your surroundings.”
Taggart also advises those playing Pokémon Go that they should travel in large groups and to be wary of traveling to lures — an item another user attaches to a pokéstops that becomes an attraction for 30 minutes.
But at the end of the day, Taggart said the app is meant to be fun — as long as it’s played safely. “There’s a lot of kids playing it and everyone should enjoy it,” he said.
